RESOLUTION APPROVING BIKE PATH EXTENSION
TO SERVE NORTHRIDGE PARKWAY SUBDIVISION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,the fiscal year 1998/99 Capital Improvements Plan(CIP)includes funding to extend
the bike pathway system from the corner of Stange Road and George Washington Carver west to
Northridge Parkway; and,
WHEREAS, this path extension is included in the City of Ames Public Work Department's
budget to address safety issues of residents in Northridge Subdivision who do not want to walk/bike on
George Washington Carver; and,
WHEREAS,Northridge Subdivision has an extensive bike path system which serves the entire
development with over 8,000' of pathway located mostly behind homes; and,
WHEREAS, in September 1998, a section of this path was paved from Stange Road/George
Washington Carver west to the east end of the Northridge Subdivision where it connected to an existing
north/south interior pathway that leads into the Subdivision; and,
WHEREAS, construction of a 500' section of the path along the south side of the Northridge
Subdivision was delayed due to concerns raised by adjacent property owners, and staff met with the
Northridge Neighborhood Association(NNA); and,
WHEREAS, staff is proposing that the path be constructed approximately 60'from the adjacent
homeowners' property lines as it provides a direct link that the NNA desires yet would be located 33'
further to the south than originally planned.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that
construction of the 500'bike path extension into Moore Memorial Park to be located approximately 60'
from the adjacent homeowners' property lines in the Northridge Subdivision is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 13th day of April, 1999.
