RESOLUTION APPROVING NEIGHBORHOOD
IMPROVEMENT GRANTS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,three Neighborhood Improvement Grants totaling$11,175 were approved by City
Council on August 25, 1998,and staff was authorized to solicit additional proposals in Spring of 1999
so as to utilize an accumulated balance of$49,210 in the NIP account(funds remaining from 1997/98
and 1998/99); and,
WHEREAS, ten neighborhood improvement projects requests totaling $30,920.50 were
received; and,
WHEREAS, staff is recommending funding seven of the projects at this time:
1. Planting Maple Trees at the Entrance to Bentwood (Wilder/Lincoln Way and Daley
Park)
2. Restoration of Old Town Park(9th and Douglas)
3. Red Oak/White Oak Commons
4. Old Town Tree Planting Guild
5. Planting Trees in Hillside Subdivision
6. Ames Community Garden at Squaw Creek Park
7. Landscaping Indian Grass Court"Island"
WHEREAS,staff is hereby authorized to work with two applicants,Battered Women's Shelter
and Stone Brooke Homeowners Association, to bring their applications into compliance with NIP
criteria, and if the applications satisfy the criteria by April 15, 1999,these additional two projects will
be funded, bringing the total to $25,920.50.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the expenditure of up to $25,920.50 for the 1998-99 Neighborhood Improvement Program is hereby
approved.
ADOPTED THIS 23rd day of March, 1999.
