RESOLUTION APPROVING THE
1999 RESOURCE RECOVERY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, the Resource Recovery System is a member of the Central Iowa Waste
Management Association,which also includes the Boone County Landfill; and,
WHEREAS,the Iowa Department of Natural Resources requires that each permitted system
submit a comprehensive plan update every three years which indicates the activities that the waste
agency is undertaking to meet the waste reduction goals of the state of Iowa; and,
WHEREAS, the 1999 Comprehensive Plan Update for the Resource Recovery System
indicates that the City is satisfying the waste reduction goal that was established at a reduction level
of 50% from the 1988 amounts to the year 2000; and,
WHEREAS,the Comprehensive Plan Update must indicate what activities the City of Ames
is going to pursue over the next three years; and,
WHEREAS, those activities are in conformance with the adopted budget and include
pursuing improvements to the amount of rejects that are being sent to the Boone County Landfill,
evaluating the potential for development of a non-ferrous metals separation process,and continuing
to work with area businesses to minimize the amount of waste they discard.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the 1999 Resource Recovery System Comprehensive Plan Update is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 23rd day of March, 1999.
