HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Approving 1999 Mayor's Bike Ride Including Waiver of Fees for Traffic Control and Parking Prohibitions RESOLUTION NO. 99-83 RESOLUTION APPROVING 1999 MAYOR'S BIKE RIDE INCLUDING WAIVER OF FEES FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL AND PARKING PROHIBITIONS FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,the 5th Annual Mayor's Bicycle Ride is scheduled for May 1, 1999,starting at Emma McCarthy Lee Park; and, WHEREAS, this year's activities will be directed and prompted by the Iowa Games and Special Olympics organizers with assistance from the Public Works and Parks and Recreation staff, and, WHEREAS, with the Iowa Games and Iowa Special Olympics organizers promoting the Ride, no direct cost will be incurred by the City; and, WHEREAS, a police escort is requested for this Ride to enhance safety for the participants since they will be required to ride along the traveled portion of many streets; and, WHEREAS,it is further requested that the City waive the costs for providing the escort and other City personnel needed to perform essential traffic control duties; and, WHEREAS,to facilitate the procession of bicycles at the start of the Ride,staff believes that parking should be removed on both sides of Ross Road from Michigan Avenue to Garfield Avenue and both sides of Garfield Avenue from Ross Road to Ontario Street. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the 5th Annual Mayor's Bicycle Ride activities, including the waiver of fees for the traffic control and the parking prohibitions needed on Ross Road and Garfield Avenue, are hereby approved.
