RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED PUBLIC INPUT
PROCESS, TIME FRAME,AND BUDGET FOR THE
RECREATION FACILITIES MASTER PLAN
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, in 1998, the Parks and Recreation Commission and City staff were requested to make
recommendations for a long-range Recreation Facilities Master Plan(RFMP) to the City Council; and,
WHEREAS,City Council requested that citizens and users of recreational facilities be actively engaged
in this process; and,
WHEREAS,the Commission is recommending that questionnaires be handed out to individual users
of existing facilities and be mailed to on-campus students, off-campus Ames households, and residences of
Ames Middle and High School students who have zip codes of 50010 or 50014; and,
WHEREAS, the services of Iowa State University Community Development-Data Information and
Analysis Laboratory(CD-DIAL)will be retained to assist and build decision-making capacity as they collect
and use information; and,
WHEREAS,the Parks and Recreation Commission will host a public meeting to be facilitated by an
ISU Extension Community Development Specialist and CD-DIAL; and,
WHEREAS, the Commission will meet with groups in the community who have an interest in
recreation facilities to obtain their input; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed time frame for the public input process would be from February thru
October 1999; and,
WHEREAS,the estimated cost of this project is$11,500,and it is being recommended that this project
be funded from the City Council's 1998-99 emergency reserve fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the proposed public input process, time frame, and budget for the Recreation Facilities Master Plan is
hereby approved.
