HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Increasing Annual Pole Rental Fees on City-Owned Poles and Authorizing Staff to Renegotiate Existing Agreements with U.S. West, Inc., and TCI RESOLUTION NO. 99-43 RESOLUTION APPROVING INCREASING ANNUAL POLE RENTAL FEES ON CITY-OWNED POLES AND AUTHORIZING STAFF TO RENEGOTIATE EXISTING AGREEMENTS WITH U. S. WEST, INC.,AND TCI WHEREAS,the City of Ames Electric Utility installs and maintains poles and wires for the distribution of electricity and street lighting; and, WHEREAS, on these poles, other City departments, Iowa State University, telecommunication and cable television utilities install facilities for their respective functions; and, WHEREAS, all other entities, except City departments and Iowa State University, pay an annual fee for each attachment on the City-owned poles; and, WHEREAS, the existing rental agreements are at least 20 to 40 years old and should be renegotiated so as to recover costs we are already paying out; and, WHEREAS, new utilities like McLeod USA and Iowa Communication Network have requested space on poles under the current terms and conditions existing for U.S. West and TCI, however,the existing fees do not adequately recover the costs associated with maintaining the poles and administering the pole attachment agreements; and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the annual pole rental fee on City-owned poles of$18.95 is hereby approved and staff is directed to renegotiate the existing agreements with U. S. West, Inc., and TCI. ADOPTED THIS 9th day of February, 1999. Aj Diane R.
