(Vaca- ting Portion of Main Street adjacent to Block 13 Original Town of Ames, Iowa. ) October 18, 1960: A communication was received from Mrs. O. R. Sweeney of 538 Hayward Avenue, informing Council she had made plans to resurface the outside of the building at 110 Main Street. It is her plan to have the front of the building covered with brick and the east side covered with stucco. Since Mrs. Sweeney's building sets right on the lot line, she is concerned that any refinishing would necessitate a slight extension of her building over City property. She has asked the City Council's advise as to whether the building might be covered with brick or stucco, or whether it could even be unsurfaced since it is adjacent to City property. After discussion it was Moved by Lawlor and seconded by Ratterree the communication be received and placed on file, and referred to the City Attorney for legal procedures and the publication of a notice for sale of a 6-inch strip of land to Mrs. Sweeney adjacent to her building. (Motion Carried. ) Notice of Sale and Public Hearing was published in the Ames Daily Tribune on October 28 and November 4, 1960. The hearing set for November 15, 1960. November 15, 1960: Ordinance No. 981 passed on first reading. December 20, 1960: Ordinance No. 981 passed on second reading. January 3, 1961: Ordinance No. 981 passed on third reading and finally adopted. January 7, 1961: Ordinance No. 981 published in Ames Daily Tribune. BOOK... 22 _..PAGE..
