AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 25 ON TRAFFIC OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE
OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY DEFINING MOTOR TRUCK, TRUCK TRACTOR,
COMBINATION OR COMBINATION OF VEHICLES, AND LIGHT DELIVERY TRUCK;
AND PROHIBITING PARKING OF ALL MOTOR TRUCKS, TRUCK TRACTORS,
SEMITRAILERS, TRAILERS OR COMBINATION THEREOF UPON CITY STREETS.
Be It Ordained By The City Council of The City of Ames, Iowa,
as follows :
Section 1. That Chapter 25 of the Municipal Code of the City
of Ames, Iowa, be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto
the following sections to be known as Sections 25-1. 23, 25-1.24,
25-1.25 and 25-1.26 respectively of the Municipal Code of the City
of Ames, Iowa:
25-1.23 Motor Truck. "Motor Truck" means every
motor vehicle designed primarily for carrying livestock
merchandise, freight of any kind, or over nine persons as
passengers,
25-1.24 Truck Tractor. "Truck Tractor" means
every vehicle designed and used primarily for drawing
other vehicles and not so constructed as to carry a
load other than a part of the weight of the vehicle and
load so drawn.
25-1.25 Combination. "Combination" or "Combination
of Vehicles" shall be construed to mean a group consisting
of two or more vehicles, or a group consisting of a motor
vehicle and one or more trailers, semitrailers or vehicles,
which are coupled or fastened together for the purpose of
being moved on the highways as a unit.
25-1.26 Light Delivery Truck. "Light Delivery
Truck", •'Panel Delivery Truck" or "Pickup" means any motor
vehicle designed to carry merchandise or freight of any
kind, not to exceed one thousand pounds.
Section 2. That Chapter 25 of the Municipal Code of the City
of Ames, Iowa, be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto
the following section to be known as Section 25-105.a of the
Municipal Code of the City, of Ames, Iowa:
25-105.a The parking of all motor trucks, truck
tractors, semitrailers, trailers or combination thereof
is hereby prohibited on all streets within the City of
Ames, Iowa, except for the explicit purpose of loading
and/or unloading. This section shall not apply to the
parking of light delivery trucks, trailer coaches or
authorized emergency vehicles.
Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 4. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and publication as provided by law.
