ORDINANCE NO. 8 8 5
ORDINANCE AMENDING PLATTING CHAPTER 35 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE
BY REQUIRING SUBDIVIDERS TO PROVIDE STORM SEWERS, WATER MAIN
EXTENSIONS, STREET GRADING AND OTHER ITEMS,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: Chapter 35 of the Ames Municipal Code or} Platting is
hereby amended by adding the following sections:
Sectiox 35--13. 1: Storm Sewers. The owner of the laxd
being platted shall at his expense construct a storm sewer
system adequate to serve the area, including anticipated
extension of use to serve additional areas. Such storm
sewer system shall be constructed in accordance with
plans and specifications of the City and at sewer grades
established by the city. The installation of such sewers
shall be under the supervision and inspection of the City
Manager, and the owner may be required to pay a reasonable
charge for such engineering and inspection service. Said
sewers shall, upon inspection, approval and acceptance by
the city, become the property of the city.
Section 35-13, 2: Water Main Extension. Water mains
required to adequately serve the area shall be designed
and installed by the City of Ames, the cost of said
installation tobe billed to and paid by the subdivider. In
the extension of such system, equitable adjustment shall be
made with the owner where the capacity of this system is
substantially increased in order to serve future subdividers
in the area.
Section 35 -13. 3. Street Grading an,-1 Surfacing. The
owner of the land being platted shall at his expense provide
the grading of the entire street area, and provide the curb,
gutter and pavement. Such street improvements shall be
constructed in accordance with the plans and specifications
of the city, and shall adequately reflect the classification
of the street, its location, and anticipated volume of traffic.
The installation of such streets shall be under the supery lion
of the City Manager and the owner may be required to pay
a reasonable charge for such engineering and inspection
service.
Section 35-13. 4: Other Requirements. The owner of the
land being platted shall further be responsible for the
grading and seeding of the parking, the construction of
sidewalks within the street areas, street lights and street
signs. All such installation shall be constructed under the
direction and supervision of the City Manager,
Section 35-13. 5: Provision Where Construction Not Complete.
If the construction of the improvements in Sections 35-13. 1, 35-13. ,
35-13. 3, and 35'-13. 4 are not completed prior to the approval of the final
plat, the owner may guarantee the construction thereof in the
form and manner provided as to sanitary sewers in Section
35-14 of this ordinance.
Section 35-13. 6: Effective Date. The requirements of
Sections 35-13. 1, 35-13. 2, 35-13. 3, and 35-13. 4, shall
become enforced as to all subdivisions where the final
plat is not ready for approval prior to December 31, 1957.
Section 2: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
with the provisions of this amendment are hereby repealed.
Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its passage and publication as provided by law.

in the Ames Daily Tribune on the 10th day of January, 1958.
