ORDINANCE NO. 877
ORDINANCE AMENDING TRAFFIC ORDINANCE CHAPTER 25 OF THE
MUNICIPAL CODE OF' AMES, BY PROVIDING ADDIT-
IONAL METERED PARKING AREAS.
SECTION 1: Section 25-101.1 of the Ames Municipal Code is hereby
repealed and the following shall hereinafter be referred to as
said section:
25-101.1: Parking is limited to ninety (90) minutes
on Fifth Street from Clark to Grand Avenue, as provided
in Section 25-101.
SECTION 2: Sections 25-101.2, 25-101.3, 25-.101.4, and 25-.101.13
of the Ames Municipal Code are hereby repealed. Section 25-101.14
of the Ames Municipal Code is hereby repealed, and the following
shall hereinafter be referred to as said section:
25-101.14: Parking is limited to ninety (90) minutes
on Main Street from the West line of Clark Avenue to the
East line of Grand Avenue, as provided in Section 25-101.
SECTION 3: Section 25-102 is hereby repealed and the following
shall hereinafter be referred to as said section:
25-.102: Limited Parking Two (2) Hours. The parking of vehicles
on all week days except Mondays, between the hours of eight
(8) o'clock A.M. and six (6) o'clock P.M., and on Mondays
between the hours of eight (8) o'clock A.M. and nine (9)
o'clock P.M. shall be limited to two (2) hours in certain
locations as designated in this chapter. Signs shall be
posted in such locations indicating said limit.
SECTION 4: Section 25--102.1 of the Ames Municipal Code is hereby
repealed and the following shall hereinafter be referred to as
said section:
25-102.1: Parking is limited to two (2) hours on that
part of the depot parking lot lying East of the eh rance.
The depot parking lot is that municipal parking lot located
South of Main Street between Clark Avenue and Grand Avenue.
SECTION 5: Section 25-111 .2 of the Ames Municipal Code is hereby
repealed and the following shall hereinafter be referred to as
said section:
25-111 .2. Metered Parking Lots . The following off-street
parking lots are hereby determined to be metered parking
lots and shall be designated as follows:
a. Fourth Ward Parking Lot No. 1 is that
parking lot lying South of Lincoln Way between
Hayward Avenue and Welch Avenue.
b. Fourth Ward Parking Lot No. 2 is that
parking lot lying South of Lincoln Way be-
tween Stanton and Lynn.
c. Fareway Parking Lot on the Northeast corner
of the intersection of Fifth Street and Kellogg
Avenue on the North and South sides of the store.
d. Rushing parking Lot, East of Kellogg to the
Third Ward Parking Lot No. 1.
e. Third Ward Parking Lot No. 1 is that parking
lot located just South of the right-of-way of the
Chicago & Northwestern Railroad, East of the

Rushing Parking Lot, and at the North end of
Sherman Avenue. Said lot shall be metered by
gates controlling entrance and exit.
SECTION 6: Section 25-111 .3 of the Ames Municipal Code is hereby
repealed and the following shall hereinafter be referred to as
said section:
25-111 .3. Time Schedule. Parking Meters on said lots
shall be in effect as follows:
a. Fourth Ward Parking Lots No. 1 and No. 2
from 7 o'clock A.M. until 6 o'clock P.M on
Mondays through Saturdays, excluding holidays .
b. Fareway Parking Lot from 9 o'clock A.M.
to 9 o'clock P.M. , except holidays.
c. Rushing Parking Lot from 9 o'clock A.M.
to 6 o'clock P.M. except Mondays and holidays.
Mondays from 12 o'clock noon to 9 o'clock P.M.
d. Third Ward Parking Lot No. 1 shall be metered
on a twenty-four (24) hour basis , seven (7)
days a week.
SECTION 7: Section 25-111 is hereby amended by adding the follow-
ing sections:
Section 25-111 .6. Meter Rates - Fareway Lots . The
rate for parking shall be one (1�) cent for thirty (30)
minutes, with a one (1) hour maximum time limit.
Section 25-111 .7. Meter Rates - Rushing Lot. The
rate for parking shall be five (5�) cents for ninety
(90) minutes with a ninety (90) minute maximum park-
ing time limit.
Section 25-111 .8. Meter Rates, Gate Controls at Third
Ward Parking Lot No. 1. The entrance gate will be
closed from 7 o'clock A.M. to 12:30 o'clock P.M.
It may be opened by deposit of one (1) ten (10�) cent
coin to admit a vehicle, and will admit vehicles
without charge from 12:30 o'clock P.M. to 7:00 o'clock
A.M. The exit gate will permit vehicles to leave without
charge from 7:00 o'clock A.M. to 12:30 o'clock P.M.
From 12:30 o'clock P.M. to 7:00 o'clock A.M. the exit
gate may be opened by deposit of one (1) ten (10�)
cent coin to permit a vehicle to leave the said lot.
SECTION 8: Section 25-113 of the Ames Municipal Code is hereby
amended by adding the following sub-section:
Section 25-113.6. Two parking meter spaces on the South
side of Fifth Street immediately East of Clark Avenue
and three parking meter spaces on the West side of Duff
Avenue immediately South of Fifth Street shall have a
maximum time limit of twelve (12) minutes .
SECTION 9: Chapter 25 of the Ames Municipal Code is hereby
amended by adding the following sections:
Page Three.
Section 25-114.A: The maximum parking time limit
is one hundred and twenty (120) minutes . In parking
meter zones established as having a maximum parking time
limit of 120 minutes , the stands supporting the meters
shall be painted green. Upon the deposit of certain
coins an allowed parking time shall be established up
to the maximum time limit as follows:
a. Upon the deposit of a five (5�) cent coin,
a parking time limit of one (1) hour shall be
established
b. Upon the deposit of two (2) five (5�) cent
coins or one (1) ten 0 0�) cent coin, a parking
time limit of two (2) hours shall be established.
Section 25-114.A.1: The following areas shall have a
parking time limit of one hundred and twenty (120) minutes:
a. Fifth Street from Burnett Avenue to Clark
Avenue, with the exception of the two parking
meter spaces on the South side of Fifth Street
immediately East of Clark Avenue.
b. Burnett Avenue from Fifth Street to Sixth
Street .
c. Sixth Street from Duff Avenue to Clark Avenue.
d . Douglas Avenue from Fifth Street to Sixth
Street.
e Duff Avenue from Main Street to Sixth Street,
with the exception of three (3) parking meter
spaces on the West side of Duff Avenue immediately
South of Fifth Street.
Section 25-114.B. Thirty (30) Minute Parking Limit.
The Tenth through the seventeenth parking meter spaces
inclusive on Main Street East of Burnett Avenue, and
the tenth through the seventeenth parking meter spaces
inclusive on Main Street East of Kellogg Avenue shall
have a maximum parking time limit of thirty (30)
minutes In the parking muter zones established as
having a maximum parking time limit of thirty (30)
minutes , the stands supporting the meters shall be
painted red. The rate for parking shall be five (5¢)
cents for thirty (30) minutes.
SECTION 10: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
with the provisions of this amendment are hereby repealed.
SECTION 11: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after passage and publication as provided by law.

published in the Ames Daily Tribune on the 23rd day of October, 1957.
