ORDINANCE NO. 861
ORDINANCE AMENDING TAXICAB ORDINANCE
NO. 808 BY AUTHR OIZING USE OF
TAXICAB METERS AND ESTABLISHING RATES.
Be it Ordained by the City Council of the City of Ames,
Iowa as follows :
SECTION 1: Ordinance No. 808 is hereby amended by
adding the following sections :
Section 17.1: Taximeters authorized and regulated.
Authority is hereby granted to the owner of any
licensed taxicab to install in said cab a taximeter
of a size and design approved by the City Manager.
Such installation shall be inspected by said
Manager and shall be certified by him as accurate.
After sundown and until sunrise, the face of every
taximeter shall be illuminated by a suitable light.
Section 17.2, Maximum Taximeter Rates . No person
own ng or operating any taxicab within the limits
of the City shall charge to exceed the following
rates to be determined by the taximeter:
First mile or fraction thereof, . , , . , . , . , , 4 #40
For each succeeding 1/3 mile or fraction

For each additional passenger for whole

Section 17.3. Hourly rates. Nothing herein shall
prevent the owner or operator of a taxicab from
contracting for the use of said cab on an hourly
basis, at a rate to be agreed upon by the parties.
Section 17.Z.. Posting Rates. Every taximeter shall
6e so connected or affixed to the taxicab that the
amount of fare determined and charged for its use
shall be plainly visible to all passengers or
occupants of the taxicab, and there shall be posted
in a conspicuous place on the inside of the taxi-
cab in the passenger ' s compartment a card, the size
of which shall be approved by the license collector,
on which card shall be printed in plain legible type
the rate of fares charged by such taxicabs.
Section 17,5, Prepayment and Refusal to Pay, Every
driver of a taxicab shall have the right to demand
payment of the estimated legal fare in advance and.
may refuse employment unless so prepaid, Any person,
who has used the services of the taxicab, and shall
refuse to pay the fare therefor as fixed by this
ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanors
SECTION 2 : All ordinances or parts of ordinances in
conflict with the provisions of this amendment are
hereby repealed.

Section 3: This ordinance shall be in full force and
e f ec't from and after passage and publication as provided
by law.

of ordinances be suspended, the second and third readings be omitted and
Ordinance No. 861 be placed on its final passage.

Mayor Lawlor declared Ordinance No. 861 duly adopted.

that the above and foregoing Ordinance No. 861 was duly and properly passed
at a meeting of the City Council on the 4th day of December, 1956 and
published by codifying on the t day of 1957.
