HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Regulating Natural Gas Rates, Repealing Ordinance 557, 815 r ORDINANCE NO. 837 AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING AND REGULATING RATES TO BE CHARGED FOR NATURAL GAS IN THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA; REPEALING ORDINANCE NOS. 557 AND 815, AND ALL OTHER ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION HEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA: Section 1. Schedule of Gas Rates. The rates to be charged for natural gas in the City of Ames, Iowa, for space heating and all general use from September 1, 1955, are hereby fixed and established as follows: First 500 cu. ft. per month $1. 05 Next 2, 5 D D cu. ft. per month $1. 05 per M cu. ft. Next 7, ODD cu. ft. per month $ . 67 per M cu. ft. Next 40, 000 cu. ft. per month $ . 53 per M cu. ft. Next 50, 000 ,cu. ft. per month $ . 47 per M cu. ft. Next 100, 000 cu. ft. per month $ . 37 per M cu. ft. Over 200, 000 cu. ft. per month $ . 335 per M cu. ft. Minimum monthly bill $1. 05 Section 2. Net Rate Charged. The above rates are net to avoid discrimin-I ation and cover the added cost of collecting delinquent bills, bills not paid within ten days after rendition may be increased ten percent (10%) on the first ten dollars ($10. DO) and two percent (20l0) on amounts in excess of ten dollars ($10. 00). Section 3. Contracts With Other Consumers. Contracts may be made with other consumers provided all such consumers desiring service under similar conditions shall have the privilege of the same rate, which rate shall first be approved by the city council. Section 4. Deposits Required. Any person, firm or corporation distribut- ing natural gas in the City of Ames, Iowa, shall have the right to require reaso .. able deposits to insure the collection of bills. Section 5. Availability. Natural gas service is available for domestic use, and for commercial and industrial use where the daily requirements do not exceed 33, 000 cu, ft, per day, and when such service is supplied at one premise through one point of delivery and measured through one meter, and when such premise is adjacent to an existing gas main of adequate capacity. Section 6, Sub-Metering or Resale of Gas. Sub-.metering or resale of gas is not permitted under this rate schedule. Gas for space heating and for large-volume commercial or industrial applications is subject to such limitations or restrictions as may be required because of any shortage in the supply of gas made available to the gas company from its supplier. Section 7. Heating Value of Natural Gas. The heating value of the natural gas delivered hereunder shall be determined as the "gross heating value" per cubic foot as delivered. If in any month, the arithmetic average of hourly gross heating value of the gas as delivered hereunder shall be less than 98D or more than 1020 British thermal units per cubic foot, then the volume of gas measured hereunder during such month shall be increased or decreased in proportion to the decrease below 980 or increase above 1D20 B. T. U. per cubic foot as the case may be. Section 8. Penalty. Any person, firm or corporation Vi,©p,ting any provisions of this ordinance shall, upon conviction, be subject to imprisonment not exceeding thirty (3D) days, or to a fine not exceeding one hundred dollars ($100. O). Section 9. Repeal. Ordinances No. 557, 815 and all other ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section ID.
