II AN ORDINANCE DEFINING THE POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE CITY TREASURER,
AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NUMBER 593 AND ALL OTHER ORDINANCES OR
PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.

Section 1. Appointment - Compensation. The city treasurer shall be
j! appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the council. He shall receive such
�I compensation as is determined by the council.
' Section 2. Receive and Disburse all Monies. He shall receive all monie
payable to the city and disburse same only on warrants drawn and signed by the
I proper officer.

Section 3. Monthly Returns. He shall make returns monthly, or oftener
II if required by the council, to the officer drawing such warrants showing the
flwarrants paid and the amount of principal and interest paid.

jl Section 4. Report of Financial Condition. He shall make a written repor
under oath to the council at its first regular meeting in eachmonth showing the
financial condition of the city.
11 Section 5. Private Use of Funds. He shall not loan or in any manner us&

for private purposes any funds coming into his hands as treasurer.
Section 6. Bond. He shall give bond in the sum of ten thousand dollars
($10, 000. 00) and the cost of said bond, not to exceed one per cent per armum,
shall be paid by the city.

Section 7. Report to Auditor. He shall file with the city auditor a copy
of the monthly financial report of the city showing the amounts remaining on
each of the funds of the city and the amount received and paid out of each of said
funds during the previous month. He shall also file with the city auditor, the
j� first of each month, all warrants redeemed during the previous month.
�I Section 8. Treasurer for Park Board. He shall be treasurer of the park,
II board and pay out all monies under the control of the board on orders signed by
! the chairman and secretary, but shall receive no compensation for his services Ij

as such treasurer.
Section 9. Membership on Board. He shall be a member of the board of
l; trustees of the retirement funds for policemen and firemen and an ex-officio
I! member, without vote, of the retirement system for utility employees.

�! Section 10. Deposit of Public Funds. He shall deposit all funds of the
Itcity in such banks and in such amounts as have been first approved by the city
c ounc il.

Section 11. B onds. He shall receive and receipt for all bonds issued
�I by the city and shall register the same in a book provided by the cityfor that
(i purpose, Nkich shall show the number of each bond, its date, date of sale, amount,
date of maturity, and the name and address of the purchaser, and, if exchanged, ':
Iwhat evidences of debt were received therefor, which record shall at all times
� be open to the inspection of the citizens of Ames.
Section 12. Depreciation Reserve Fund Investments. He shall invest
II such sums as are set aside by order of the city council for the depreciation
reserve funds of the city in interest bearing securities as are prescribed by the i
�i statutes of the State of Iowa, pertaining to trust funds, subject to the approval of
such investments by the city council. It
Section 13. Other Powers and Duties. He shall have such other powers
and perform such other duties as may be provided by the council, the ordinances
II of the municipality, or the laws of the state, and shall transmit to his successor '
IIin office all books, papers, rectords, documents and property, together with .an

invoice of the same in his custody and pertaining to his office.
Sectinn 14. Repeal. Ordinance number 593 and all other ordinances or

II' parts oT ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

Section 15. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
hits passage and publication as required by law.
