AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CONTROL OF OUTDOOR FIRES: THE DEC:-
LARATION OF A STATE OF EMERGENCY; AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR
VIOLATION THEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa hereby
deems it necessary in the interest of public health, safety and welfare to control
the setting of outdoor fires for burning leaves, brush, trash, garbage or any
inflammable material in times of drought or hazardous fire conditions.
Section 2. The Mayor of the City of Ames is hereby authorized to
declare a state of emergency in times of prolonged drought or other hazardous fir
conditions and to prohibit the setting of outdoor fires of every kind or nature
within the corporate boundaries of the City of Ames, Iowa, during such emergency.
Section 3. That said state of emergency shall be established by a
proclamation issued by the Mayor and posted on the bulletin board at the
front door of the City Hall in Ames, Iowa and by publishing a copy thereof once
in a local newspaper of general circulation within the City of Ames, Iowa.
Section 4. That said state of emergency shall continue until declared
at an end b , the Mayor in the same manner in which said emergency was originally
proclaimed.
Section 5. Violations and penalties. Any person, firm, co-patrtnership,
corporation or other association of persons whether acting directly or through i
employees or agents, that violates, disobeys, omits, neglects, refuses to comply
with, or resists the enforcement of any provision of this ordinance shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall for each
offense be fined a sum not exceeding $ 100.00 or imprisoned in the City or County
Jail for a term not to exceed thirty days.
Section 6. All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 7. This Ordinance shall be infull force and effect from
a d after passage and publication as provided by law.

Mayor .Alan declared Ordinance No. 737 duly passed.
I, J. W. Prather, being the City Clerk of the City of Ames, Iowa, do hereby certify that
the above and foregoing Ordinance No. 737 was duly and properly passed at a
meeting of the City Council on the 6th day of October, 1953 and published in the
Ames Daily Tribune on the 8th day of October, 1953.
