HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amending Ordinance 565 (Clear Sidewalks) ORDINANCE NO. 710 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 565, AN ORDINANCE MAKING IT THE DUTY OF THE OWNERS, TENANTS, AND PERSONS IN CHARGE OF REAL ESTATE IN THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, TO KEEP ABUTTING SIDEWALKS FREE AND CLEAR FROM SNOW, ICE OR ACCUMULATIONS, BY AMENDING SECTION 4, THEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA: Section 1. Section 4 of Ordinance No. 565 of the City Ordinances of the City of is hereby specifically repealed and the following Ehall hereinafter be known as Section 4 of said Ordinance No. 565: Section 4. Nhen snow, ice, or accumulations have been removed from any sidewalk, under the provisions of the preceding section, the procedure to secure payment of the cost of removal of the snow, ice, or accumulations to the City shall be as follows: (a) The City Manager shall submit to the Council an itemized and verified statement showing expenditures of material and labor used in making such removal, the name of the owner and owners, and the descriptions of the lot, part of lot, or parcel of ground in front of and abutting upon the sidewalk from which snow, ice, or accumulations have been removed. (b) The Council shall examine the verified statement and if found to be correct shall assess the actual cost of such removal against each lot, part of lot, or parcel of ground, and direct the City Clerk to certify said costs and assessments to the County Auditor and it shall then be collected with, and in the same manner as, general property taxes. Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this amendment are hereby repealed. Section 3. This amendment to Ordinance No. 565 of the City Ordinances of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be in full force and effect from andaf ter passage and publication as provided by law.
