HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amending Certain Sections of Ordinance 647 (Traffic and Parking) ZI ORDINANCE NO. 666 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 647, PARTICULARLY SECTION 19, PARKING PROHIBITED, AND SECTION 67, "U" TURNS. Be It Ordained by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa: Section 1. That Section 19, Parking Prohibited, of Ordinance No. 647 of the City Ordinances of the City of Ames, Iowa, is hereby specifically repealed and the following shall be hereinafter known as Section 19 of said Ordinance No. 647: "Section 19. Parking Prohibited. The parking of ve- hicles is hereby prohibited at all times in the following places: (a) At any place where an emergency exists where offi- cial signs prohibit stopping or parking. (b) For a space of twenty-five feet at the side of the street in front of any theatre, auditorium, hotel having more than twenty-five sleeping rooms, or other building where large assemblages of people are being held, except in taking on or discharging passengers or freight, and then for only such length of time as is necessary for such purpose . (c) On a sidewalk. (d) Irk front of a public or private driveway. (e) Within an intersection. (f) Within five feet of a fire hydrant. (g) On a crosswalk. (h) Within ten feet upon the approach to any flashing beacon, stop sign, or traffic control signal located at the side of a roadway. (i) Within fifty feet of the nearest rail of a railway crossing, except when parked parallel with such rail and not exhibiting a red light. (j) Within twenty feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station and on the side of a street opposite the entrance to any fire station within seventy-five feet of said entrance when properly signposted. (k) On the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parke at the edge or curb of a street. (1) Within any alley except while expeditiously loading or unloading freight, merchandise, or materials . (m) Upon the parking of any street where curbing has been installed. (n) Within twenty feet of any street intersection. (o) Within a space of twenty-five feet in front of a U. S. Post Office mail box. (p) Alongside or opposite any street excavation or ob- struction when such stopping, standing, or parking would obstruct traffic . 2 (q) On the east side of Stanton Avenue from the south line of Lincoln Way to the north line of Knapp Street. (r) On the east side of Lynn Avenue from the south line of Lincoln Way to the north line of Knapp Street. (s) East side of Ash Avenue between Lincoln Way and Knapp Street. (t) On South Duff Avenue from Lincoln Way to the south corporate limits . (u) On Lincoln Way except that portion of Lincoln Way between Stanton and Hayward Avenues; the south side of Lincoln Way between Lynn and Stanton Avenues and the south side of Lincoln Way between Hayward and Sheldon Avenues on Sundays only. (u) On Grand Avenue between Lincoln Way and Thirteenth Street. (w) On Allan Drive . (x) On the east side of Sheldon Avenue between Lincoln Way and Hyland Avenue . (y) On Clark Avenue between Fifth and Sixth Streets during school hours . (z) On the south side of Sixth Street in front of the Ames Public Library entrance for a distance of twenty- five feet. (aa) On the east side of Douglas Avenue and on the north side of Twelfth Street at the entrances of the Mary Greeley Hospital for a distance of twenty-five feet. (bb) On the north side of Ninth Street in front of the Roosevelt public school for a distance of fifty (50) feet during school hours . (cc) On the west side of Stanton Avenue in front of the Louise Crawford school for a distance of fifty (50) feet during school hours . (dd) On the north side of West Street for a distance of fifty (50) feet west of the west line of Woodland Avenue . (ee) Within the portion of the street designated as a bus stop by the posting of bus stop signs . (ff) The west side of Hyland Avenue from the north line of Lincoln Way to the south line of West Street. (gg) The east side of Welch Avenue from the south line of Chamberlain Street to the north line of Knapp Street. (hh) The west side of Douglas Avenue from the north lin of Eleventh Street to the south line of Twelfth Street. (ii) On the east side of Clark Avenue for a distance of thirty feet south of the south line of Main Street, ex- cept for the loading and unloading of passenger vehicles . " Section 2. That Section 67, "U" Turns, of Ordinance No. 647 of the City of Ames, Iowa, is hereby specifically repealed and the following shall be hereinafter known as Section 67 of said Ordi- nance No. 647: 3 "Section 67. "U" Turns . Vehicles are hereby prohibited from making a complete or�U" turn within the limits of the following designated street intersections : (a) Douglas Avenue and Main Street. (b) Kellogg Avenue and Main Street. (c) Burnett Avenue and Main Street. (d) Welch Avenue and Lincoln Way. (e) Duff Avenue and Lincoln Way. (f) Grand Avenue and Lincoln Way. (g) Kellogg Avenue and Fifth Street. (h) Douglas Avenue and Fifth Street. (i) Burnett Avenue and Fifth Street. (J) Stanton Avenue and Lincoln Way. (k) Grand Avenue at Fifth Street. (1) Duff Avenue and Main Street. (m) Clark Avenue and Main Street. " Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this amendment are hereby repealed. Section 4. This amendment to Ordinance No. 647 of the City Ordinances of the City of Ames, Iowa, shall be in force and effect from and after passage and publication as provided by law.
