HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Repealing Ordinance 629 (Water Rates) ORDINANCE NO. 663 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 629 AND SETTING UP DISTRICTS AND REGULATING RATES TO BE CHARGED FOR THE SALE OF WATER AND RELATING TO THE PAYMENT OF BILLS AND MINIMUM MONTHLY CHARGES FOR WATER SERVICE Be It Ordained by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa: Section 1. Rate Schedule . The amount to be charged for the monthly use of water from each water meter connected to . the water supply system of the City of Ames, Iowa, shall be computed from the following schedule of net rates : First 3000 cubic feet of water used in any one meter reading interval of approximately 30 days per 100 cubic feet . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28 cents Next 3000 cubic feet of water used in any one meter reading interval of approximately 30 days per 100 cubic feet . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 22 cents Next 6000 cubic feet of water used in any one meter reading interval of approximately 30 days per 100 cubic feet . . . . . . . . . . 17 cents All over 12000 cubic feet of water used in any one meter reading interval of approximately 30 days per 100 cubic feet . . . . . . . . . . . 13 cents The above rates shall be based on the monthly consumption of water through one meter and no combination of meter readings shall be used in computing the amount to be charged. Section 2. Minimum Charge . Each water meter owned by the City and connected to the City water supply shall return a minimum charge per meter reading interval of approximately 30 days or fraction thereof as follows : Size of Meter Minimum Charge 5 inch $ 1. 00 3/4 inch 1. 25 1 inch 2.00 1-1/2 inch 4.00 2 inch 6.00 3 inch l2.00 4 inch 20.00 6 inch 30.00 A consumer may at his option furnish a water meter of one � inch size or larger meeting the approval of the City Mana er, in which event a minimum monthly charge of one dollar ($1.00 shall be charged in lieu of the schedule of minimum charges specified herein. The City water department shall have the right to remove such meter for test at any time and to require the consumer to keep the same in repair. If the consumer fails to repair the meter after notice by the City to do so the City shall have the right to supply the meter and to apply the schedule of minimum monthly charges as specified herein. Section 3. The amount to be charged for the use of water from each water meter connected to the water supply system of the City of Ames, Iowa, located outside the corporate limits of the City of Ames, Iowa, shall be computed at a rate double the rate for all consumers within the corporate limits of the City. Section 4. Districts . A. Billing. For the purpose of billing and collecting of water furnished to consumers o`_' the City of Ames water department, certain districts are hereby established: 2 (1) District No. I. Beginning at the east corporate limits of the Cit:r of Am,=s at a point on the center line of Fifth Street extended; thence west to the center line of Duff Avenue; thence north to the center line of the alley or alley extended between Fifth Street and Sixth Street; thence west to the center line of Burnett Avenue; thence south to the center line of Fifth Street; thence west to the center line of Grand Avenue; thence south to the center line of the Chicago and Northwestern Railwa.-;,-; thence westerly and northwesterly along the center line of the north branch of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway to the north corporate limits; thence east along the southeast and southwest 1/4, 1/4 line of Sec- tions 34- 4-24 and 31-84-24 to the east corporate limits; thence south to the place of beginning. (2) District No. II. Beginning at the east corporate limits at a point where the center line of the Chicago North- western Railway intersects the east corporate limits; thence westerly along the ^enter line of said. Chicago and Northwestern Railway to a point where the center line of east-1r7est main line intersects the center line of the north branch of the Chicago and Northwestern Railrrra T; thence in a northwesterly direction along the center line of said railway to the north corporate limits; thence west to the north-south 1/4 line of Section 34-84-24 and 3-83-24; thence south to the center line of Lincoln Way; thence west to the center line of Ash Avenue; thence south to the center line of Knapp Street; thence west to the center line of Welch Avenue; thence north to the cent r line of Chamberlain Avenue; thence west to the center line of TV 7,raid Avenue; thence south to the center line of the alley or alley extended north of Hunt Street; thence west to the center line of South Sheldon Avenue; thence south to the cor- po?° "t= thence east following the corporate limits to the east corporate limits; thence north to the place of begin - ning. (3) District No. III. All territory and consumers not contained in Districts I and II as established by this or- dinance. B. Payment. The above net rates apply only when paid as fol- lows: In District No. I as established b-y this ordinance on or be- fore the trrentietiz day of the month, provided, however, that if said twentieth day falls upon a Sunday or holiday then said time shall be extended to the next business day. In District No. II on or before the first day of the month followin date of invoice, provided, however, that if said first day falls upon a Sunday or holiday then said time shall be ex- tended to the next business da-y, . In District No. III on or before the tenth day of the month, provided, however, that if said tenth day of the month falls upon a Sunday or holiday then said time shall be extended to the next business day. When not so paid the gross late five per cent (5 ) above the net rate shall apply. All minimum charges are for one month or fraction thereof. C. Deposit. A consumer's deposit for service is required to secure payment of account. The amount of cash deposit required of each consumer shall be as determined by the City Clerk. 3 Section 5. U_npaid Bills. In cases where a tenant shall vacate a property leaving an unpaid water bill, the owner of the premises where such water was used will be held liable for the unpa _d amount and must pay same before any more water will be fur- nished by the City, either for the property owner or a tenant. Section 6. Repeal. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith,- pa.rtic,,ilarl:y Ordinance No. 629, are hereby repealed. Section 7.
