HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Creating the Office of City Assessor ORDINANCE N0. 651 AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE OFFICE OF CITY ASSE�ESOR IN AND FOR THE CITY OF ANES, IO k: PROVIDING FOR THE SELECTION OF THE CITY ASSESSOR, AND PROVIDING FOR THE xSSZSSNIENT Of PROPERTY IN THE CITY OF AMES, IOTA. v7HEREAS, the Fifty-second General hssembly of the State of Iona did enact legislation which provided for the selection and appointment of a City Assessor and for the assessment of property in certain cities and towns, and 'KHEREAS, said legislation has been enacted into law and now appears as Chapter 240 of the Acts of the Fifty-Second General Assembly, and WHEREAS, the City of times, Iowa, desires to create the office of City Assessor, provide for the selection of a City Assessor and to provide further for the assessment of property in the City of Ames, all as made and provided in Chapter 240 of the acts of the Fifty-second General hssembly; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AIIES, IO'V'­: Section 1. That there be and there is hereby created in and for the City of Ames, Iowa, the position or office of City Assessor. Section 2. Be it further ordained that an examining board be a_pointed and created as provided by Section /.05.1, Code of 1946, for the purpose of examining applicants for the position of City i�ssessor and for the further purpose of examining applicants for positions of Deputy r'ssess- ors, all as provided in Section 405.1, Code of 1946. Section 3. Be it further ordained that a City Assessor be appointed for the City of Ames, Iowa, as provided by Section 405.4 of the Code of 1946 after the examining board has performed its duties a.s made and provided in Section 405.1, Code of 1946• Section 4• Be it further ordained that the salary of the City Assessor, his deputies and other personnel of the office be established and fixed as provided in Chapter 240 of the Acts of the Fifty-Second General Assembly and as further provided by Chapter 405, Code of 1946. -ti- Section 5, Be it further ordained that the term of office for the City Assessor shall be four years from the date the said City Assessor assumes office and qualifies for said position. Section 6. Be it further ordained that from and after January 15t, 1949 the assessment of all property in the City of Ames, IoJVs., shall be made in accordance with and under the provisions of Chapter 405, Code of 1946. Section 7, This ordinance is hereby declared to be of immediate necessity for the preservation of public health, peace and safety and shall be in full force and effect from and after its passa6-e wnd publication as provided by law.
