ORDINANCE NO. 630
AN ORDINANCE REPEALING O'RDINAT, CE NO. 497 ESTABLISHING
DISTRICTS FOR TIE BILLING AND COLLECTING OF ELECTRIC
ENERGY IN THE CITY OF AMES, AND FIXING THE SCHEDULE
OF RATES AND CHARGES FOR ELECTRIC ENERGY AND SERVICE
EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 1947.
Be it Ordained by the City Council of the City of .limes , Ionia;
That the following schedule of rates and charges for electric
energy and service be adopted and made effective on all bills
rendered on or after April 1, 1947.
Section 1 . LIGHTING RATE SCHEDULE

Section 2 . COOKIiVG RATE SCHEDULE
All electric energy consumed------------------------------ .03�
Service on separate meter only on installation of a
single electrical heating unit of 2000 or more watt
capacity. All appliances except lights may be con-
nected at cooking rate.
Minimum charge per month or fraction thereof--------------$2 .50
Section 3. OPTIONAL RESIDENITIAL RATE SCUaDULE
One meter rate for private residential use . Private
residential use for the purpose of this ordinance shall
include boarding and lodging houses other than a hotel,
fraternity or sorority house, where meals are regularly
cooked in and served from a common kitchen, or lodging
furnished for compensation to not more that ten (10)
persons not members of the family there residing.
First 60 K.W. Hrs . consumed during meter reading interval
of approximately 30 days---$3.00 net per month.
All K.W. Hrs . used in excess of 60 during meter reading
interval of approximately 30 days--------- -- .022¢
Section 4 . OFF PEAK HEATING RATE SCFEDTZE
Separate meter rate for electric water heating during
off peak periods on contracts of one year.

Provided that any consumer may elect to guarantee a net annual
return of Eighteen Dollars (�1B.00) per year per meter in
lieu of the minimum charge specified herein.

Section 6 . For the purpose of billing and collecting
of electric energy furnished to consumers of the City of Ames
Electric Department, certain districts are hereby established.
A. (1 ) District No. 1. Beginning at the east corporate limits
of the City of Ames at a point on the center line of Fifth
Street extended; thence west to the center line of Duff Avenue;
thence north to the center line of the alley or alley extended
between Fifth Street and Sixth Street; thence west to the center
line of Burnett Avenue; thence south to the center line of
Fifth Street; thence west to the center line of Grand Avenue;
thence south to the center line of the Chicago and Northwestern
Railway; thence westerly and northwesterly along the center
line of the north branch of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway
to the north cor orate limits; thence east along the southeast
and southwest 1/4, 1/4 line of Sections 34-84-24 and 35-84-24 to the
east corporate limits; thence south to the place of beginning.
(2 ) District No. 2 . Beginning at the east corporate limits
at a point where the center line of the Chicago Northwestern
Railway intersects the east corporate limits; thence westerly
along the center line of said Chicago and Northwestern Railway
to a point where the center line of east west main line inter-
sects the center line of the north branch of the Chicago and
Northwestern Railway; thence in a northwesterly direction along
the center line of said railway to the north corporate limits;
thence west to the north-south 1/4 line of Section 34-84-24 and
3-83-24; thence south to the center line of Lincoln Way; thence
west to the center line of Ash Avenue; thence south to the center
lire of Knapp Street; thence west to the center line of Welch
Avenue; thence north to the center line of Charr..berlain Avenue;
thence west to the center line of Hayward Avenue, thence south
to the center line of the alley or alley extended north of Hunt
Street; thence west to the center line of south Sheldon Avenue;
thence south to the corporate limits; thence east following the
corporate limits to the east corporate limits; thence north to
the place of beginning.

(3 ) District No. 3. All territory and consumers not con-
tained in Districts 1 and 2 as established by this ordinance
B. PAYMENT The above net rates apply only when paid as
follows:
In District No. 1 as established by this ordinance on or
before the twentieth day of the month, provided, however, that
if said twentieths day falls upon a Sunday or holiday then said
ti,. e shall be extended to the next business day.
In District No. 2 on or before the first day of the month
following date of invoice, provided, however, that if said first
day of the month falls upon a Isunday or holiday then said time
shall be extended to the next business day .
In District no. 3 on or before the tenth day of the month,
provided however, that if said tenth day of the month falls
upon a Sunday or holiday then said tin_e shall be extended to
the next business day.
` laen not so paid the gross rate ten per cent (10%) above 1
the net rate shall apply. All minimum ch4Lrges are for one month
or fraction thereof.
C. A consumerts deposit for service is required to secure
payment of account. The amount of cash deposit required of
each consumer shall be as determined by the City Clerk.
Section 7. DISCCH— NTT iCE 017' SERVICE The city of Ames
reserves the righf to disconnect the service and remove its
meters, wires, and other appliances whenever an electric bill is
not paid within thirty days from the datelof billing or to
prevent fraud or for any cause the City may deem sufficient .
When service is temporarily discontinued at the request of
the consumer or on account of non-payrient of a bill, or for any
reason deemed sufficient by the City a charJe of ' 1 .00 may
be made for reconnecting the service.
Section ,8 T (PAID BILLS. In cases when a tenant vacates
a property lea ,,Ting an unpaid electric bill the owner ... 1 the
property where such electric service was used shall be held
liable for the unpaid amount and must pay same before any �
electric service be furnished by the City either for the property {
owner or a ter ant.

Section 9. RTJhES A�iD REGULATIONS e City Council may by
resolution adui)t such rules and regulatio s as it may deem
necessary pertaining to the supplying and discontinuance of
electric service to all consumers under the ordinance .
Section 10 . REPEALS Ordinance No . 497 and all Ordinances
or parts of Ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this
Ordinance are nereby repealed.
Section 11. This Ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from asks after April 1, 1947, after its passage and
publication as provided by law.
