YT OF BILLS AND MINIMUM MONTHLY CHARGES FOR WATER SERVICE Be it Ordained by the City Council of the 6ity of Ames, Iowa: Section 1. RATE SCHEDULE The amount to be charged for the monthly use of water from each water meter connected to the water supply system of the City of Ames, Iowa, shall be computed from the followinE schedule of net rates: First 1500 cubic feet or less 22 cents per 100 cubic feet Next 1500 cubic feet or less 17 cents per 100 cubic feet Next 3500 cubic feet or less 15 cents per 100 cubic feet Next 6000 cubic feet or less 13 cents per 100 cubic feet Next 12000 cubic feet or less 11.5 cents per 100 cubic feet All Over 24000 cubic feet 10 cents per 100 cubic feet The above rates shall be based on the monthly consumption of water through one meter and no combination of meter readings shall be used in computing the amount to be charged. ' Section 2 . MINIMUM CHARGE Each water meter owned by the City and connected to the City water supply shall return a minimum charge per month, or fraction of month thereof, as follows : Size of meter minimum Monthly Charge 5/8 inch-----------------------------%� 0.75 3/4 inch----------------------------- 1.25 1 inch------------------------------ 2 .00 1-1/2 inch----------------------------- 4.00 2 inch----------------------------- 6.00 3 inch----------------------------- 12.00 4 inch----------------------------- 20.00 6 inch----------------------------- 30.00 A consumer may at his option furnish a water meter of one inch size or larger meting the approval of the City Manager, in which event a minimum monthly charge of seventy-five cents shall be charged in lieu of the schedule of minimum charges specified herein . The City water department shall have the right to remove such meter for test at any time and to require the consumer to keep the same in repair . If the consumer fails to i repair the meter after notice by the City to do so the City shall j have the right to supply the meter and to apply the schedule of minimum monthly charges as specified herein. Section 3. DISTRICTS A. Billing. For the purpose of billing and collecting of water furnished to consumers of the City of ,ernes water depart- ment, certain distr1cts are hereby established: (1 ) District No. 1. Beginning at the east corporate limits of the City of Ames at a point on the center lire of Fifth Street extended; thence west to the center line of Duff Avenue; 2 thence north to the center line of the alley or alley extended between Fifth Street and Sixth Street; thence west to the center line of 3-urnett Avenue; thence south to the center line of Fifth Street; thence west to the center line of Grand Avenue; thence south to the center line of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway; thence westerly and northwesterly along the center line of the north branch of the Chicago and Nortawestern Railway to the north corporate limits ; thence east alone the southeast and southwest 1/4, 1/4 line of Sections 34-84-24 and 35-84-24 to the east corporate limits; thence south to the place of be- ginning. (2 ) District No. 2 . Beginning at the east corporate limits at a point where the center line of the Chicago Northwestern Railway intersects the east corporate limits; thence westerly along the center line of said Chicago and Northwestern Railway to a point where the center line of east-west main line inter- sects the center line of the north branch of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway; thence in a northwesterly direction along the center line of said railway to the north corporate limits; thence west to the north-south 1/4 line of Section 34-84-24 and 3-83-24; thence south to the center line of Lincoln "`'ay; thence west to the center line of Ash Avenue; thence south to the centeri line of Knapp Street; thence west to the center line of .' elch Avenue; thence north to the center line of Cha.n.berlain Avenue; thence west to the center line of Hayward Avenue, thence south to the center line of the alley or alley extended north of Hunt Street; thence west to the center line of south Sheldon Avenue; thence south to the corporate limits; thence east following the corporate limits to the east corporate limits; thence north to the place of beginning. (3) District No. 3. All territory and consumers not con- tained in Districts 1 and 2 as established by this ordinance. B . FAYLNT The above net rates apply only when paid as follows: In District No . I as established by this ordinance on or before the twentieth day of the month, provided, however, that ' it' said twentieth day falls upon a Sunday or holiday then said time shall be extended to the next business day . In District No . Il on or before the first day of the month following date of invoice, provided, however, that if said first day falls upon a Sunday or holiday then said time shall be extended to the next business day. In District No . III On or before the tenth day of the month, provided, however, that if said tenth day of the month falls upon a Sunday or Holiday then said tine shall be extended to the next business day. Wfhen not so paid the gross rate ten per cent (10%) above the net rate shall apply. All minimum charges are for one month or fraction thereof. C . DEPOSIT A consumer' s deposit for service is required to sec..re payment of account . The amount of cash deposit required of each consumer shall be as determined by the City Clerk. 3 Section 4 UNPAID BILLS In cases where a tenant shall vacate a property leavinS an unpaid water bill, the owner of the premises where such water was used will be held liable for the unpaid amount and must pay same before any more water will be furnished by the City, either for the property owner or a tenant. Section 5 REPEAL Ordinance No. 553 and all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Section 6 This ordinance shall be in full force and effect April 1, 1947 after its passage and publication as provided by law.
