BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AM, IOV1A That Section 132 of Ordinance No. 542 of the City Ordinances of the City of Ames, Iowa, is hereby specifically repealed and that the following shall hereinafter be knovm as Section 132 of Ordinance No. 542. "Section 132. Material and Installation. The material and installation used in thethe house drain and house serer shall conform to the following requirements: (a) The house drain when underground shall be of lead, brass or "Extra Heavy" cast iron. Cast iron shall have bell and spigot joints caulked with molten lead weighing not less than 12 ounces per inch diameter of pipe. (b) The house sewer beginning 5 feet outside the inner face of the building wall shall be either "Cast Iron Soil Pipe" with hub and spigot ends conforming to the re- quirements of the American Societyfor Testin Materials (Serial Designation A74-425 or "Standard Strength Clay Sewer Pipe" with bell and spigot joints con- forming to the requirements of the Ameri- can Society for Testing Materials (Serial Designation C13-44T) . Cast Iron Soil Pipe shall have joints caulked with molten lead weighing not less than 12 ounces per inch diameter of pipe . Standard Strength Clay Sewer Pipe shall be laid on a firm foundation supporting each pipe for its entire length. In the event the soil in the bottom of the sewer ditch is such that it will not provide a firm foundation for the sewer pipe, the ditch shall be excavated below finished grade for a minimum width of not less than twelve inches and a minimum depth of four inches, and the ditch backfilled to finished grade with gravel, crushed stone or concrete to furnish a firm foundation for the sewer pipe. The back fill under the pipe shall be thoroughly tamped be- fore the pipes are laid. The spigot of one pipe shall be carefully centered in the bell of the next pipe. The joints shall be firmly packed with tarred oakum or jute in such manner as to not disturb the alignment of the pipes . Not less than one ounce of dry braided jute or tarred oakum per joint shall be used for a four-inch pipe. The joints shall be poured Joints using the Clay Products Association Jointing Compound "C1aPipe" or its equal. The jointing compound shall be heated until it has become quite thin thus causing it to pour freely and smoothly. The compound shall be poured continuously until the joint is completely filled, leaving no air bubbles in the solidified mass . The installation of all clay 2 - sewer pipe in house sewers shall be done under the direct supervision and inspection of the Plumbing Inspector or his authorized representative while at the site of the work and the installation of any clay sewer pipe not so installed shall be considered unauthor- ized construction and shall be removed and replaced with approved construction at the owner' s expense. All ordinances or parts of ordinances i.n conflict with the provisions of this amendment are hereby repealed. �I This amendment to Ordinance No. 542 of the City Ordinances of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be in force and effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by law.
