ORDINANCE NO. 591
AN ORDINANCE ALv ENDING ORDINANCE N0. 476, PARTICULARLY THE TITLE
THEREOF, AND SECTIONS 1 AND 2 OF SAID ORDINANCE N0. 476.
Be It Ordained by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa:
Section 1. That the title of Ordinance No. 476 of The
Ordinances of the City of Ames, Iowa, is hereby specifically
repealed and the following shall be hereinafter known as the title
of Ordinance No. 476:
"AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING CHURCHES SCHOOLS LIBRARIES,
MUSEUMS, SOCIAL CENTERS, 001..1MUNHY BUILDI!TGS, HOSPITALS
AND SIMILAR BUILDINGS TO CONFOMT TO BUILDING REQUIRE-
MENTS AS SET FORTH IN ORDIITANCE N0, 584 SAID ORDINANCE
NO. 584 BEING C01il lONLY KNOWN AS "FIRE LIMITS" ORDINANCE. "
Section 2. That Section 1 of Ordinance No. 476 of the
Ordinances of the City of Ames, Iowa, is hereby specifically
repealed and the following shall be hereinafter known as Section
1 of Ordinance No. 476:
"Section 1. That all churches, schools, libraries,
museums, social centers, community buildings, hospitals,
and similar buildings hereafter erected in the City of
Ames, Iowa, shall conform to the building; requJ°ements
as set forth in Ordinance No. 584, said Ordinance No.
584 being comn-ionly known as the "Fire Limits" Ordinance. "
Section 3. That Section 2 of Ordinance No. 476 of the
Ordinances of the City of Ades, Iol.•ra, is hereby specifically
repealed and the following shall be hereinafter %nown as Section
2 of Ordinance No. 476:
"Section 2. This requirement is intended to guide the City
Council in passing upon the plans submitted for such
buildings, and nothing in this Ordinance shall prevent
the City Council from permitting the construction of one
or more story buildings with walls of less thickness or
other construction than provided in said Ordinance No. 584. "
Section 4. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in con-
flict with the provisions of this amendment are hereby repealed.

Section 5. This amendment to Ordinance No. 476 of the
Ordinances of the City of Ames, Iowa, shall be in force and
effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by
law.

suspended and the second and third readings omitted and. Ordinance
No. 591 be p laced on its final reading.

Moved by Palmer, seconded by MacDonald that Ordinance No. 591 do
now pass .

Voting Nay: None.
Councilman absent: Acheson.
Mavor declared Ordinance No. 591 duly passed.
I, J. W. Prather, City Clerk of the City of Ames, Iowa, do hereby
certify that the above and foregoing Ordinance No, 591 was duly
and properly passed at a meeting of the City Council on the 29th
day of March 1943 and published in the Ames Daily Tribune on
March 31, 1943.
