I've summarized our discussion below. Request to Rezone the West Side of Grove Avenue. Your letter, written on behalf of the Northwood/Overland Heights Neighborhood Association, requesting that the City rezone the west side of Grove Avenue from RH (High-Density Residential)to RM (Medium-Density Residential) will be forwarded electronically on Friday, October 22, to the Mayor and City Council for possible referral to staff or to a future agenda. At its next meeting (October 26, 2021), the Council may vote to refer your request or take no action. Due to the requirements of the Open Meetings Law, the Council cannot deliberate the merits of your request until it is referred to staff for a memo or to a future agenda. You may, however, speak under the Public Forum portion of the October 261h Agenda to encourage the Council to refer your request to staff. Skunk River Erosion Issue. I talked to Liz Calhoun shortly after you left my office. Liz had spoken briefly with Municipal Engineer Tracy Peterson about this issue as well. As you are aware, the area where the most severe erosion is occurring is located in Story County, just outside the city limits of Ames. Since the location is under the jurisdiction of Story County, please contact Mike Cox, Director of Story County Conservation, to discuss possible solutions to remedy the situation. Due to the long-term ramifications of riverbank erosion, i.e., eventually impacting Riverside Park and/or other developments along the current river channel, there would need to be future collaboration between Story County and the City of Ames. Liz will be contacting you (in person or via phone or email) in the near future to discuss this further. Therefore, at this time, it will not be necessary for you to email me with a specific request to the Mayor/City Council to address the Skunk River erosion issue. Neighborhood Sculpture Program. The Ames Public Art Commission administers the Neighborhood Sculpture Program whereby neighbors may request placement of a piece of art from the Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition in their neighborhood. Here's the link for more information. http://www.cityofames.org/government/departments-divisions-a- h/city-clerk/boards-commissions/public-art-commission/neighborhood-sculpture Please remember that the deadline for applications is December 17, 2021. Selected neighborhoods will be notified in early Spring 2022 pending City Council approval. If you have questions about any of the above, please don't hesitate to contact me.
