HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form dated July 27, 2021 ITEM # 36 DATE 07-27-21 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: URBAN DEER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM ORDINANCE CHANGE BACKGROUND: The City has an urban deer management program that requires an annual report to the City Council. On July 28, 2020, the Police Department presented the most recent annual Urban Deer Management Program — Bow Hunting report. At that time, the City Council directed staff to modify the Special Urban Deer Task Force's reporting requirement from yearly reporting to a report every five years. The attached ordinance has been prepared to implement the change. Historically, the information presented in the report does not substantially change from year to year. A less frequent interval for reporting will reduce the administrative burden for the program. In the event an issue arises in the interim that requires the Council's attention, City staff will prepare a report for the Council's consideration. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Approve first reading of the Ordinance amending the Urban Deer Management Program reporting requirement from an annual reporting requirement to a report once every five years. 2. Direct staff to make modifications to the draft ordinance. 3. Do not approve the proposed ordinance. CITY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: The Council has directed staff to prepare the attached ordinance. A less frequent reporting interval for the Special Urban Deer Task Force will reduce the administrative burden, while allowing for staff to raise issues with the City Council between reports, if necessary. It is therefore the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt Alternative #1, as described above.
