Hi Michelle:
The Ordinance went into effect on the date it was published, which was December 20, 2019. 1 raised the
concern as to how massage therapists were going to know that the Ordinance is now in effect and was
told by Assistant City Attorney Jane Chang that City Attorney Mark Lambert (at the request of Police Chief
Cychosz) was sending a letter to all licensed massage therapists (as found on the State of Iowa Web site).
I have a call in to Mr. Lambert to see if that has been completed.

Yes the ordinance is in effect.

date it became effective, and what, if any, notice is issued to those who may be affected.

Council doesn't get many thanks for passing ordinances so yours is meaningful and appreciated.
It will be in effect once published, which should be by years end.

I have been remiss in sending this and my apologies for the delay. Unfortunately I was unable
to attend the final meetings leading up to last night's approval and adoption of the Ames
massage therapy ordinance to convey this in person.
Thank you for passing such a meaningful ordinance that doesn't impose unnecessary burdens
upon legitimate practitioners in the massage therapy profession. Most of all; I wanted everyone
to know how much appreciated the time and work that was put into this, and especially the
professionalism and courtesy extended to myself and the others. Myself and the other LMT's
who spoke at the workshop and follow up meetings truly felt valued and respected.
