Gloria Sent from my iPad Begin forwarded message: From: "Kristian Einsweiler" <kristian.einsweiler(a,gmail.com> Date: September 24, 2018 at 11:39:38 AM CDT To: MayorCouncilaa,city.ames.ia.us Subject: Street Parking Concern-Dotson/Harris Street Ames City Council - After communication with my City Council representative David Martin, he requested that 1 email the entire council in order to inform and possibly start the process to evaluate the parking regulation on the street. My name is Kristian Einsweiler, and my wife, Molly, and I are residents of Ames in your ward. Molly and I are Iowa State graduates, and when the opportunity to return to Ames presented itself we jumped on it. Simply put, in our return, we feel like we are home in this community. We have lived in the same home for the past years at 3903 Hams Street., in a newly developed division off of Dotson Street. Street Parking Concern Throughout our years living in Ames, we've seen our neighborhood grow and evolve rather quickly. Now, the street is filled with homes, and new construction continues on Coy Street to the East of Dotson. While it is great to see the growth we have seen difficulties surface as a result. In the past year, we've noticed a dramatic increase in the street parking on Harris near Dotson. Nearly every afternoon and evening there are several cars parked on both sides of the street creating a nearly impassable one lane road. Please see the first picture attached. The safety concern comes not only from the challenge of driving down the street or simply backing into the street but most notably when trying to turn off of Dotson onto Harris Street. Routinely as a car turns onto Harris from Dotson it must stop to wait for cars to drive through the created one lane pass before being able to enter the street. Again, see the second picture attached. In watching it, and having driven through it, I do sincerely worry that an accident is only a matter of time on Harris or Dotson as a result of the current situation. What is puzzling to me how an adjacent road in the neighborhood, Cochran Parkway, has parking restricted to one side only, but no other roads currently have such a regulation. I am inquiring to find additional information and requesting there be a change to the current parking regulations on Harris Street. It seems given the safety concerns, and precedent presented by Cochran Parke ay and Campustown streets there is already a framework to make such a change. As a high school principal, I understand the challenges of working or serving as a public employee or official. I'm sure, you likely receive several emails, complaints, and requests in a given day. I appreciate the time it takes for you to serve and determine the validity of constituent requests. If you would like to contact me to talk further about this issues please do not hesitate to do so at 319.290.8055, or stop by our home at 3903 Harris St. Thank you for your time - and your willingness to serve our community.
