HomeMy WebLinkAboutA032 - Email from Wesley Wierson dated July 17, 2018 "Bonafide rental" concern in hardship exemption Wesley Wierson to: AmesCityCouncil 07/17/2018 11:24 AM Hello Council, I write you today to tell you the trouble I have with the language in the hardship exemption As I understand it, and as you have discussed in the public, at the end of the 6 months to come to LOC, and the 12 months to make a bonafide rental, a home may be owner occupied AND STILL CONSIDERED A BONAFIDE RENTAL if there are 2 unrelated people living with the owner, say in a 3 bedroom house. In this case, you are not legislating that the owner relocate in order to prove their home being a rental. I live in a 2 bedroom home. Why should I be excluded from the rental exemption if I have proven rental income from my second bedroom? I am working towards getting my PhD and founding two biotechnology firms in the great city of Ames. I may be here for years to come. Unless it is specifically defined that any rental income considers a home a bonafide rental, you are FORCING me to relocate from my beautiful and loved home in a maximum of 18 months in order to take advantage of the right to rent my house. Please consider adding language that will include owner occupied homes OF ALL BEDROOM NUMBERS to be considered bonafide rentals if there is rental income and a filled room. Thank you, Wes Wesley A.
