Happy July 4th! Thank you all for the work you do and for your work toward passing a hardship allowance under the current rental cap. My husband and I bought our current home in Ames with the intention of staying and raising our family here. However, two years later,I received the opportunity to move back home(where our other relatives all live)and we took it as we loved Ames, but missed our family members. However,as you may know from our previous emails,we were not able to sell our home as we did not receive offers from those who wanted it for a single family dwelling and could not sell it to offers we did receive(all who wanted the home with a letter of compliance)due to the rental cap and being surrounded by rental properties. Thus,we were relieved when the council decided to allow hardships. In the last week,we had to get a temporary LOC and rent our home as we had to move prior to the beginning of the school year. We did all of this following the rules. However, some of the language of the current hardship allowance would hurt our family and others. I'd like to kindly request that you make a motion during the second reading to simply reflect that the property owner must have owned the property and have been the primary residence as of October 27,2017(and not at the application date as it's written now). This would prevent you potentially inadvertently hurting those who had to rent their homes while waiting for the hardships to pass and did this following current rules that allow for a temporary LOC. Thank you for your consideration! Best, Emily Howell cell:864.293.5092 file:///C:/Users/diane.voss/AppData/Local/Temp/notesFFF692/—web7643.htm 7/6/2018
