Dear Mayor Campbell and Council,
I wish to reiterate my support for the Campus and Community Commission (CCC), answer a few
anticipated questions, and provide some of my own opinions, as I will be out of town during Tuesday's
meeting.
1) Brian's memo (agenda item 27)notes President Leath indicated his support for appointing one
member of the ISU senior administration to the CCC, while previous drafts of the commission makeup
included two members from ISU senior administration. This reflects President Leath's belief that one
appointee is sufficient, and I agree with his assessment. Therefore, excluding this change, the makeup of
the CCC would be as outlined on the last page of the agenda item (page 21).
2) The original staff report asks Council to consider whether the CCC should solely focus on issues near
Campustown or whether a broader focus on campus-community issues is desiredkT;h@ hA

3) I do not have input on whether an ordinance or resolution is best for creating the CCC.
4) I support requiring Council approval for all issues discussed by the CCC.
Lastly, I want to extend thanks to all City staff(and Council!) who helped navigate the winding history
of the various manifestations of this commission.

Given the recent enrollment growth at ISU and the multiple topics that could be addressed by the CCC
(as outlined in the letter Trevin Ward and I sent on February 1 lth, 2016), the support of ISU and CAA,
the refined makeup of the commission, and the commission's broader focus, I kindly request your vote
in support of creating the Campus and Community Commission.
Sincerely,
Sam Schulte
