In any event, today I read a letter to the editor of the Ames Tribune by the owner of a local bullion and coin shop who opposes the proposed "second-hand" ordinance. I thought his points were valid. I for one would not do business in his establishment if my transactions were not private and I was required to pose for a photo. I admit that I have not read the proposed ordinance but I assume it applies to all business establishments that sell second-hand goods such as automobiles (large dealership as well as small), appliances, clothing (Good Will and Salvation Army Store ), businesses that sell items on consignment and even private individuals. If not then why is the City focusing on one individual and establishment and not all that sell second-hand goods? If it does I can't image that it will be well-received by the business community nor the public. I urge the Council to give this proposed ordinance a lot more thought before voting and hopefully it will be defeated.
