HomeMy WebLinkAboutA004 - Letter to Mayor and City Council from Leah Bowman dated August 27, 2013 rj,2-'I- 13 To: MCCEx, Cc: _ Bcc: Subject: meeting item Forwarded to you at the request of Leah Bowman: Subject: meeting item Council Members: I am very concerned about the proposal to destroy the businesses/buildings now existing between Welch and Stanton. Though it would require more time and money, the historic store fronts in campus town are as significant to Ames as is the downtown area, and should be given the same consideration. It can be easily observed that students and other members of the community enjoy and support the small businesses in campus town. Big, modern is not always the better option and this seems to be one of those situations. Once gone, the history of the campus town storefronts and small businesses is gone forever. I urge you to think of other solutions to the issue of a proposed need for additional office space. Study how other communities can grow without destroying their history and the important aspect of `walkability' and accessibility for their populations. Leah Bowman Ames
