Dear City Council Members:
I write to you with a request to delay action on the Kingland Systems Campustown
Redevelopment Project, listed on the August 27, 2013 City Council agenda, until Iowa State
University students have had an opportunity to share feedback with the council.
The Campustown area is a special area for our students as one of the closest, most accessible
places for students to interact within the city off of university ground. Tomorrow marks the first
day of fall classes, when well over 30,000 students will begin a new year at the university. I
believe many students that may be unaware of the proposal or otherwise preoccupied during the
first week of classes would be interested in sharing their thoughts with the City Council about the
proposal.
I am not writing at this time to oppose this proposal or to ask the Council to reject the special
considerations requested by Kingland Systems. Rather, I ask that the City Council allow further
opportunity for students to consider the impact of the proposal on Campustown and to share their
ideas and feedback about the proposal with the Council. I am happy to work with any of you to
identify the best way to collect this feedback from students.
Sincerely,
Spencer Hughes
