The farmers' market is scheduled to be held on the 400 block of Main Street each Saturday from June 25th to September 24th, 8:OOAM to 1:OOPM. The 14-week event will showcase the areas best farmers, crafters, and prepared food experts as well as have live entertainment and children's activities. At this time, MSCD asks the City Council to consider the following request: Ames Main Street Farmers' Market- The MSCD requests that local wineries be allowed to provide one ounce samples of wine to customers during market hours every Saturday from June 25th to September 24th between the hours of 8:OOAM and 1:0O1PM. MSCD also requests that the City Council ask City Staff to research options for changing the City Code to allow entities with off-premises liquor licenses, the ability to provide one ounce wine and beer samples at farmers' markets as well. MSCD would like to include local wineries as vendors at the market and believes that doing so will improve the product variety and effectiveness of the market. It can be difficult to sell local wine without allowing customers to sample it first. Customers sampling wine will be required to be of legal age and will have to sample the wine at the winery's booth. We understand that sampling wine is an important issue in Ames and we encourage promotion of local wine and beer in appropriate settings. MSCD requests that City Council ask City Staff to research options for changing the City Code to allow entities with off-premises liquor licenses, the ability to provide one ounce wine and beer samples as well. Thank you for your consideration of these requests and continued support of downtown Ames! Sincerely, Thomas K.
