Box 811 Ames, IA 50010 Phone: 515-239-5105 September 15, 2010 LEGAL NOTICE You are hereby notified that the City Council of the City of Ames, Story County,Iowa,will meet at 7:00 p.m. on September 28, 2010, in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, Ames, Iowa, to consider a proposed amendment to the Official Zoning Map of the City of Ames, Iowa,by changing the boundaries of the districts as shown on said map as provided in Section 29.1507 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, as follows: That the following described real estate, located at 1013 and 1025 Adams Street, is proposed to be rezoned by ordinance to establish an Historic Preservation Overlay District(O-H)and to designate the property as a Local Historic Landmark. Real Estate Description: Parcel T in part of Lot 3 and all of Lot 4 in the Northeast Quarter of the Northeast Quarter of Section 27, Township 84 North, Range 24 West of the 5th P.M., in the City of Ames, Story County, Iowa, as shown on the Plat of Survey filed in the office of the Recorder of Story County, Iowa, on the 2 1" day of September 2004, and recorded on Slide 219, Page 1, and as Inst. No. 04-13005. You are hereby notified that the proposed ordinance making such a change is on file in the Office of the City Clerk. The other rezoning proposal is being initiated by the City of Ames and would change the zoning of the public park land (proposed Adams Memorial Greenway) at 1025 Adams Street from Residential Low Density (RL) to Government/Airport (S-GA). Rezoning to apply the Historic Preservation Overlay (O-H) zone to the property would designate the site as a Local Historic Landmark. This designation would restrict alterations to the design and materials of the exterior of the house at 1013 Adams Street. Restrictions to maintain the historic character of the structure would also apply to any additions to the house, and to the construction of any new structures on the properties at 1013 and 1025 Adams Street. Rezoning of the land at 1025 Adams Street, the proposed Adams Memorial Greenway, from Residential Low Density (RL) to Government/Airport (S-GA) is being initiated by the City of Ames since this is public park land. The S-GA zone is reserved exclusively for structures and uses related to or owned by federal, state, county, school districts, or municipal governmental authorities. The rezoning to S-GA is for the purpose of recognizing the land at 1025 Adams Street as City-owned property. In this case, the use planned is a City park. A third public hearing is necessary to adopt an ordinance establishing design criteria for the proposed local historic landmark at 1013 and 1025 Adams Street. This includes the lot with the Adams house that is presently owned by the City (to be sold to a private owner), and the City park land on the proposed lot at 1025 Adams Street. The City Attorney's Office will prepare this ordinance. The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the rezoning requests at its meeting of September 1, 2010. 1 The City Council will take action on the rezoning requests and the ordinance amendments at the meeting scheduled for September 28, 2010.
