HomeMy WebLinkAboutA004 - request to combine 2nd and 3rd readings "qv@@"", 'm'LOYEE OWNED April 8,2010 City of Ames Mayor Ann Campbell 515 Clark Avenue Ames, IA 50010 Re Zoning Text Amendment Case Fite ZTA-10-01 Dear Mayor Campbell, Recently,Hy-Vee submitted a proposed text amendment to the City to revise the required number of parking stalls required for a grocery store. The text amendment was reviewed by City staff and presented at the March 17th Planning and Zoning Commission. At the meeting, the commission moved to recommend the change to City Council. The first hearing for this text amendment change is scheduled for the April ITh City Council meeting. Should the council approve the amendment,I am hereby requesting that the second and third reading of the amendment be combined at the next regularly schedule council meeting. If the'readings cannot be combined,I request that the second and/or third reading be included on the agenda of any special council meetings that may be scheduled. Since our first correspondence with Department of Planning and Housing in January, the staff has been very good to work with, and has assisted us throughout this entire process. However, approval of this text amendment is the critical path that would allow us to begin construction of a proposed convenience store on the south side of Lincoln Way in Lincoln Center. We would like to begin construction soon to avoid the inclement winter weather towards the end of the project. Thank you.for your consideration of this request. Sincerely, Jeffrey T. To summarize the letter, it is a request to combine the second and third reading of the proposed text amendment. The reason for the request is to assist in maintaining a schedule that will allow construction to begin this summer and to be complete prior to inclement winter weather. There is a fairly narrow window in the fall when the site can be landscaped and stabilized. Having the site landscaped and stabilized will greatly reduce the threat of erosion that could occur over the winter and next spring. Thank you for your consideration of this request. 14 — 15— 16 Jeffrey T. Stein, PE Hy-Vee, Inc.
