COUNCIL ACTION FORM
SUBJECT: SOUTH DAYTON PLACE PARKING REGULATIONS
BACKGROUND:
As of July 30, 2009, South Dayton Avenue was realigned starting just south of
Southeast 5th Street to connect with the interchange of U.S. Highway 30 and South
Dayton Avenue. Concurrently, the remaining portion of what was old South Dayton
Avenue was renamed South Dayton Place.
In response to this change, the City will need to establish parking regulations along
South Dayton Place to ensure the ongoing operational safety of the street. Therefore, it
is recommended that parking be prohibited on both sides of South Dayton Place from its
intersection with South Dayton Avenue to its southern terminus.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Direct the City Attorney to draft an ordinance establishing parking regulations for
South Dayton Place, thereby prohibiting parking on both sides of South Dayton
Place from its intersection with South Dayton Avenue to its southern terminus.
2. Reject the proposed ordinance.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Creation of parking regulations will ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of
South Dayton Place as it was when it was South Dayton Avenue. Although it is no
longer the main thoroughfare in the area, it still serves as an important link to the new
South Dayton Avenue.
Therefore, it is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt
Alternative No. 1 , directing the City Attorney to draft an ordinance establishing parking
regulations for South Dayton Place, thereby prohibiting parking on both sides of South
Dayton Place from its intersection with South Dayton Avenue to its southern terminus.
