HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Memo to Council, proposed ordinance Memo Water & Pollution Control Department 515-239-5150 Caring People Quality Programs Exceptional Service TO: Mayor and Council Members FROM: John R. Dunn, Director, Water and Pollution Control Department DATE: June 22, 2009 SUBJECT: Correction to Water Rate Ordinance On March 24, 2009, Council approved a water rate adjustment to increase the overall revenue by 10 percent. The ordinance that implemented that increase was passed at the following three meetings and was to be effective for utility bills mailed on or after July 1, 2009. The actual rate ordinance that was signed and published contained two typographical errors that need to be corrected. • The summer residential tier 3 rate was published as being $0.0471 per cubic foot. The last two digits were transposed. It should have been $0.0417 per cubic foot. • The summer non-residential rate was published as being $0.00206 per cubic foot. There was an extraneous zero in the unit rate. It should have been $0.0206 per cubic foot. A revised ordinance will be provided to you on Tuesday night that corrects the rates to match those presented and discussed by Council. Staff requests that the revisions be approved on second and third reading so that the correct rates can be included in bills mailed on and after July 1. /bas
