AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY
OF AMES, IOWA, BY AMENDING SEC. 20.2, 20.3, 20.6 AND SEC.
29.1402 THEREOF, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SETTING THE
PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION TERMS OF OFFICE;
REPEALING ANY AND ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH
CONFLICT; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ENACTED,by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa,that:
Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be and the same is hereby amended by
amending Sec.20.2,20.3,20.6 and Sec.29.1402 as follows:
"Sec.20.2.COMMISSION MEMBERSHIP;APPOINTMENT;QUALIFICATIONS.
The planning and zoning commission shall consist of seven (7)persons appointed by the Mayor with
the approval of the City Council.No one shall be a member of the commission who is not a resident of the City
of Ames,nor shall anyone who is an employee or elected official of the city be a member.

See.20.3.TERM OF OFFICE OF COMMISSIONERS.
The term of office shall be three (3) years beginning April 1 of the fiscal year of appointment. No
member who has served two(2)full consecutive terms is eligible for reappointment.

Sec.20.6.VACANCIES.
Vacancies shall be filled for any unexpired term in the same manner as original appointments.

Sec.29.1402.PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION.
The Planning and Zoning Commission is appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council
to serve as an independent advisory body to the Council and, periodically, to the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
The Commission is responsible for the preparation and adoption of the official Land Use Policy Plan of the City
and gives advice and recommendations on matters involving amendments to the City's Zoning Ordinance and
historic preservation ordinance and guidelines. The Commission reviews and gives advice on subdivisions
occurring within the City and within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City."
Section Two. All ordinances, or parts of ordinances, in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent
of such conflict, if any.
Section Three. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as
required by law.
