The hearing and first passage are set for Tuesday the 8th. 3rd reading normally would be February 12. If we need to have the ordinance effective by January 21, you will need to ask the Council to suspend the requirement for 2nd and 3rd reading. If 5 Council members agree to suspend, the ordinance could be published and effective on or about January 15. Doug Marek Ames City Attorney 515 Clark Avenue P.O. Although everything you receive from FEMA says February 20`h, if it isn't in the FEMA database by then, they will suspend the community. If it isn't in the FEMA database 30 days prior to the effective date, the community's name is included in the Federal Register Notice listing communities that have not adopted the new map and that will be suspended on February 20, 2008 if it isn't adopted by that date (I know they say"by" but they mean before— it is a FEMA thing). In the past Tonya and I have been able to "rush" one or two through by having the community fax me a copy and mail her one directly. HOWEVER, Tonya is retiring, effective tomorrow, and until her position is filled other's will be "helping" out. I am not going to comment beyond that. I'll be in all day today (until 3:45) and Thursday, but leaving early (11:00)on Friday. The original was directed by certified mail to Mayor Campbell. It is a reminder of the deadline for submittal of our ordinance adopting the new flood maps. This is to assure you there is no need for concern. I sent our ordinance to our State Coordinator, by certified mail, and it was received by that office on January 16. On the 17th, the State Coordinator forwarded our documents to FEMA. Thus we have met the required deadline. It appears the FEMA letter and our documents have crossed in the mail.
