HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Memo from Inspection with proposed language to amend t Memo Fire Department / Inspections Division TO: Doug Marek Judy Parks Diane Voss FROM: David Brown DATE: December 26, 2007 SUBJECT: FEMA Flood Plain Maps - Ordinance Text Amendment Doug, Judy: I believe Diane recently discussed the protocol for this item with Doug - need for public hearing, scheduling, etc. Below, I'm showing text of current ordinance, and including new ordinance text suggested by the Iowa FEMA coordinator, Sandra Cox, of the IDNR. I'm also attaching my draft CAF for your review and background. Please prepare the necessary ordinance and schedule on Council agenda to move this forward and accomplish formal adoption by the February 20 deadline set by FEMA. Please advise of any further information or assistance I need to provide in this process. Thank-you. Text of Ordinance No. 3769, approved by Council May 25, 2004: "Sec. 9.2 (2) Establishment of Official Flood Plain Zoning Map. The Flood Boundary Map prepared as part of the Flood Insurance Study for the City of Ames, Iowa, in 1980, and subsequently thereafter during 2003 and 2004, as revised to conform to the flood boundary map prepared as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Federal Insurance Rate Map, July 16, 2004 (FIRM), Federal Insurance Administration, Revised Flood Insurance Study, Teagarden Area Watershed, are hereby adopted by reference and declared to by the official Flood Plain Zoning Map. The flood profiles and all explanatory material contained with the said flood insurance studies and pertinent maps are also adopted by this reference and made a part thereof. (Ord. The Story County, Iowa and Incorporated Areas Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM), City of Ames Panels 140, 141, 142, 143, 144, 161, 162, 163, 164, 168, 170, 256, 257, and 276, dated February 20, 2008, prepared as part of the Flood Insurance Study for Story County and Incorporated Areas are hereby adopted by reference and declared to be the Official Flood Plain Zoning Map. The flood profiles and all explanatory material contained with the Flood Insurance Study are also declared to be a part of this ordinance." Sandra's note - "NOTE: If the 2004 Teagarden Area Watershed data is NOT incorporated into the Story County, Iowa and Incorporated Areas FIRM and the City wishes to use this data for regulatory purposes it will need to also be referenced in this section."
