HomeMy WebLinkAboutA003 - Letter to Kathryn Kempen from Traffic Engineer PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT - Caring People ♦ Quality Programs ♦ Exceptional Service City Hall • 515 Clark Avenue Ames,IA• 50010-0811 Phone:(515)239-5275 • FAX: (515)239-5404 Email: dpregitzer@city.ames.ia.us November 26, 2007 Kathryn Kempen 127 North Oak Avenue Ames, IA 50010 Ms. Kempen: Recently there has been new commercial development along South Duff Avenue; specifically the addition of a new Wal-Mart Super Store. In following the approved traffic study for this development the east and west bound approaches of the South Duff Avenue and South Fifth Street intersection were restriped as three-lane, and additional traffic signal phases were established (left-turn arrows east and west). In order to safely transition traffic from the two lanes on South Fifth Street to the newly establish three-lane, parking along South Fifth Street needs to be prohibited. This will also be true with the future extension of South Fifth Street that will occur when Grand Avenue is extended the remaining distance down to South Sixteenth Street. Please note the change will also prohibit parking in all areas of Southeast Fifth Street as well. This modification will take three (3) readings by the Ames City Council before the change becomes final. The dates of these three readings will begin at the December 4tn City Council meeting. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at anytime; I can be reached at (515) 239-5275 or by email: dpregitzer(cDcity.ames.ia.us I will be happy to provide any information I can. Respectfully, Damion Pregitzer Traffic Engineer
