He expressed concern regarding the impact of this change upon his organization. Having speaking with the Postmaster, he'd learned that the change could have a significantly negative impact upon his operations unless the Postal Service made additional accommodations. While Mr. Holm did not object to the renaming, he did feel that more needs to be done to overcome the obstacles noted below. Prior to passing the ordinance on first reading, Council thus directed staff to set up a meeting with Mr. Holm and appropriate USPO and ISU representatives to try to resolve these concerns. Diane Voss tells me that Cathy Brown indicated that you yourself would like to participate in this meeting. Our office will begin making those arrangements tomorrow. Should you want Cathy or another University representative to also join us, please let me know. Thanks in advance for helping address Mr. Holm's concerns as we move forward with the renaming of Elwood Drive. Bob Bob Kindred Assistant City Manager City of Ames, Iowa (515) 239-5202 Caring People" Quality Programs— Exceptional Service -----Forwarded by Bob Kindred/COA on 03/08/2007 05:57 PM----- "Dave Holm" ` <dholm@iowainstitute.coop> To "Bob Kindred"<bkindred@city.ames.ia.us> 03/08/2007 03:03 PM cc Subject Meeting Bob, I would like to follow up on conversation Tuesday evening. Again to reiterate some of my concerns: 1. After talking to the postmaster it is my understanding that our first class mail will be forwarded for one year and then returned to the sender for the next six months. After that there will be no service on our first class mail. Bob, we have been at this address since 1981 and we have literally thousands of brochures and business cards that have been distributed with Elwood Drive as the address and I am very concerned about f not receiving mail sent to us. 2. There will be no forwarding of third class mail. I would estimate that we receive over 200 pieces per month of third class mail. These are professional journals, periodicals and our member's newsletters. If we can't have these forwarded I will not be able to even identify them all to have the address changed. 3. We are going to incur significant costs for the reprinting of brochures, educational material and handouts that all have our Elwood Drive mailing address on them. If the mail can't be forwarded I hesitate to continue to use these old materials that have a wrong mailing address on them despite the fact that all the material in them is still relevant. I would like to see if we can arrange a meeting for all the interested parties. I would assume this would be the post office the city, the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives and perhaps the university. If you would like we have a conference room in our office and we could hold the meeting here and perhaps that will clarify the point of my concern. Can you take the lead on trying to arrange this meeting. I look forward to hearing from you.
