HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form dated August 8, 2006 �r © 0 ,�ITEM # CAP DATE 08-08-06 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: PARKING REGULATIONS ON CULLEN DRIVE BACKGROUND: The establishment of additional parking regulations is required in response to filing the plat for Taylor Glenn Subdivision, Third Addition. The City is currently building narrower local streets in an effort to calm traffic. The resultant street width requires that "no parking" regulations be established on one side of the street to ensure emergency services enough room to set up equipment. The east and north sides of Cullen Drive provide hydrant access to emergency services, and parking restrictions would normally be consistent with these areas. However, staff recommends that "no parking" regulations be placed on the east and south sides of Cullen Drive. This would ensure consistent regulation along Cullen Drive, in doing so, make the appropriate connection to the existing regulations on Kent Avenue. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Direct the City Attorney to draft an ordinance prohibiting parking at all times on the east and south sides of Cullen Drive. 2. Reject this ordinance. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: Establishing parking regulations on the east and south sides of Cullen Drive will provide consistent regulations as Kent Avenue transitions into Cullen Drive, while allowing the appropriate access for emergency services. Therefore, it is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt Alternative No. 1, thereby directing the City Attorney to draft an ordinance prohibiting parking at all times on the east and south sides of Cullen Drive.
