Subject: Re: Yellow zone on Brookridge.
This was my original message for Mayor Campbell who I forgot on the 1st email
Council members, as you know I am usually in favor of eliminating parking regulations, but I have
personally checked into this at the request of Kris Moorman of 1223 9th St. If the yellow zone is
eliminated, there would be a distinct danger to the motoring public. The yellow zone is on a curve
with limited sight distance. Removing the yellow would allow a vehicle to park on the curve on a
narrow part of the street on a curve. The possibility for a collision would increase in this area. The
actual code is 18.31(35). I will be attending my daughters birthday party on Tuesday night so I
cannot attend the council meeting, but I would be more than happy to answer any questions that
you may have. If you drive north on Brookridge you should immediately find the inherent danger
of removing the yellow zone. I am not aware of the reason for the request, but I don't think the
safety concerns would be outweighed. You may actually consider extending the yellow further, but
I think this would be a decision for Damion Pregitzer. Thank you for your consideration.

I took some pictures to better illustrate my concerns here. Picture one is three cars side by side to
show the distance. The car in the yellow is parked about 3 inches from the curb, 1 foot or more is
common.

This picture show the limited sight of a southbound car when there is a car parked in area under
debate. I also parked about 3 inches from the curb which is probably not typical. As you can see
it is hard to see oncoming traffic.

This next picture shows the view and the obstructed view of northbound traffic. The grading of the
yard makes it difficult to see oncoming traffic.

The pictures really don't do it justice. I know of a few accidents where the mailbox was taken out
seen in the last picture and the light pole has been hit at least twice. It the grade was flat, you
would be able to see traffic coming, but with the grade, tight turn and narrow road, I just really
don't think it would be safe to allow parking here. The other two officers who went with me to take
the pictures also thought it would not be a safe course of action. I really think you should leave
the yellow on the curve. It only takes away a few parking spaces, but I think it is needed.
