Subject Council initiatives from the AFD for next year
Hi Bob,
Since I did my monthly update with you and Steve separately, I wanted to update you on my second
meeting with Steve. We spent most of the time discussing the staff report on retro sprinkler systems.
After you and I met, I had adjusted the staff report. Steve is currently reading and reordering some
information. We decided that the table with the anticipated affected occupancies should be included in the
report. It is our goal to complete the staff report and distribute it to council members by December 15th.
Regarding the affected high rises, nursing homes, and mobility impaired residences, Steve and I agree
that we will start the public outreach to those residence owners immediately. The retro sprinkler
ordinance will be a three step process in front of the council. Step 1 will be the staff report to the council
on January 10th. Due to the number of ISU personnel that want to participate in support of this ordinance,
I anticipate this taking a considerable time. This presentation will not be open for public comment. Step 2
will be on February 28th, when we hold the public comment session. Step 3 will be on March 28th,which
would be the first reading of the new ordinance should we receive approval to move to that point.
We moved on to the junk vehicle ordinance. We agreed that at the council meeting we will present to the
council a request for an ordinance change in three parts. I will handle the problems encountered with the
present ordinance component, Police Officer Dave Schultz will do a visual presentation showing the
scope of the existing problems we have with accumulated junk vehicles, and Chief Jaeger will present the
proposed new ordinance.
During both my conversation with Steve and you, it was requested that we develop a list of council topics
for next year. Mine follows:
