RESOLUTION NO. 06-111 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE PLAN FOR THE EAST UNIVERSITY-IMPACTED URBAN REVITALIZATION AREA FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,City staff has prepared a plan for a proposed urban revitalization area to be named the East University-Impacted Area Urban Revitalization Area, as described in the plan attached hereto; and, WHEREAS, a public hearing was scheduled and notice given to owners of record of real property located within the proposed East University-Impacted Urban Revitalization Area and to the tenants and occupants living within the said proposed urban revitalization area pursuant to and in accordance with Section 404.2(3) of the Code of Iowa; and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: 1. That it is found that the rehabilitation, conservation, redevelopment, economic development,or a combination thereof with respect to the said area is necessary in the interest of the public hearing,safety,or welfare of the residents of the City and the area meets the criteria of Section 404.1 of the Code of Iowa and is also declared appropriate for and designated as an urban renewal area for purposes of Section 404.3(6) of the Code of Iowa. 2. The revitalization of the said area, called the East University-Impacted Urban Revitalization Area is now on file, shall be, and the same is hereby approved and adopted. Applicability of Revitalization: Revitalization shall be applicable only to buildings in the designated area which comply with following conditions- ■ Existing or former residences recognized by Iowa State University as part of the Greek residence system, and ■ 70% of the area of existing exterior walls of the structure will remain. 8. Duration: No end date 9. Relocation: The plan does not require the displacement of any persons, and there will be no relocation benefits provided. 10. Any qualified real estate may elect one of the three schedules. The exemption period for ten (10) years. The amount of the partial exemption is equal to a percent of the Actual Value added by the improvements, determined as follows: For the first year, 80% second 70% third 60% fourth 50% fifth 40% sixth 40% seventh 30% eighth 30% ninth 20% tenth 20% The exemption period for five (5) years. For the first year, 100% second 80% third 60% fourth 40% fifth 20% The exemption period for three (3) years. All qualified real estate is eligible to receive a 100% exemption on the Actual Value added by the improvements for each of the three years. Carefully examine the exemption schedules before making a selection. Once the selection of the schedule is made and the exemption is granted the owner is not permitted to change the method of exemption.
