HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form dated November 8, 2005 off- Item # Date: No ember 8, 2005 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: PARKING REGULATIONS ON STANGE ROAD AND OXFORD AVENUE BACKGROUND: In response to the filing of the final plat for the Somerset Subdivision 20th Addition, parking regulations are required. The City is currently building narrower local streets in an effort to calm traffic. This requires "no parking" regulations on one side of the street to provide emergency services enough room to set up their equipment. The westerly side of Oxford Avenue provides hydrant access to emergency services. Therefore, Staff feels "no parking" regulations should be placed on the westerly and northerly side of Oxford Avenue, over its extent. In addition, with the development on the west side of Stange Road, Staff feels parking regulations should match the regulations on the east side of Stange Road. To match the existing regulations, the "no parking" restrictions would be in effect from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. everyday along the west side of Stange Road from Northridge Parkway to Aspen Road. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Direct the City Attorney to change the existing ordinance to create "no parking" restrictions on the westerly side of Oxford Avenue. In addition, develop an ordinance to restrict parking on the west side of Stange Road between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. from Northridge Parkway to Aspen Road. 2. Reject this ordinance. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt Alternative No. 1, thereby directing the City Attorney to change the existing ordinance to create "no parking" restrictions on the westerly side of Oxford Avenue. In addition, develop an ordinance to restrict parking on the west side of Stange Road between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. from Northridge Parkway to Aspen Road.
