Subject Three Readings of 13th Street Overlay Ordinance
Members of the Ames City Council
The 13th Street Overlay ordinance is scheduled for a first reading January 11, 2005.
The outcome of the final vote on this ordinance will have a significant and long lasting impact on the
Northeast Gateway to our city. Because this development will dramatically alter the economic and social
vitality of our city it must have the normal and usual THREE full readings before the City Council. Three
reading are necessary for all the people in Ames to have an opportunity to hear and carefully consider this
overlay ordinance. I urge you to allow the full three readings to proceed for this city ordinance.

Subject City Council Meeting Security
Gentlemen,
On Tuesday January 11, the City Council will be voting on the zoning ordinances which relate to the
proposed mall on E. 13th Street. I would suspect that there will be some vocal citizens in attendance at
this council meeting which is scheduled to start at 1900 hours. Please plan accordingly to provide a
uniformed officer to walk through the area periodically before, during, and after this meeting. I have asked
for Investigations to have a plain clothes officer also monitor the event. I would also suggest that you
have dispatch monitor the meeting on Channel 12. Thanks for your assistance, Jim.................
