HomeMy WebLinkAboutA002 - Letter from Amie Rockow-Nelson requesting change to fencing regulations 2754 Somerset Drive Ames, IA 50010 May 10, 2004 City of Ames City Council and Mayor 515 Clark Avenue Ames,IA 50010 Dear City Council and Mayor: We are writing to ask that you change the fencing regulations for the Somerset single family detached residential areas to allow a 4 foot picket fence within the set backs adjacent to the street. The current regulations are restricted to 3 foot, unlike any other development in the City of Ames. As residents of the Somerset development, we have discussed this matter with a majority of the residents here. As you can see by the attachment,we are in agreement that allowing a 4 foot fence would be beneficial to our neighborhood. A 4 foot picket fence would allow us to promote the village concept and support the unique atmosphere and intended character of the development. But this would also allow us to contain large breed dogs and maintain the value of our property. (Long time real estate agents have suggested that multiple levels of fencing on the same property would devalue that property.) We have also spoken to Eric Jensen,AICP. He has stated that"generally speaking, staff will most likely support change". Also, the Somerset Developers have stated they are in support of such a change. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, aM4,6(i4 WW Arnie Rockow—Nelson Je y elson Enclosure
