Dear Board,
The Somerset Developers wish to support the request for a variance from the fence
regulations in Somerset Village for the Nelson's at 2754 Somerset Drive. The applicant
is asking for a variance from three feet to four feet in the area North and East of their
home. The Developers believe that this variance will not have a negative impact on the
subdivision.

I am in favor of changing the fencing regulations for Somerset single family
detached residential areas to allow a 4 foot picket fence within set backs
adjacent to the street. The current regulations are restricted to 3 foot, unlike
any other development in the City of Ames.

Master Plan approval(and amendments)for Somerset The three tables(2$12019)-12.3)are the
emulations of the Zoning Ordinance.A$you can see we have already modified the commun ty
I7tfems to allow prcke`fences in the side and rear yards and reduca the height of privacy fences to
allow the first pattem break at 3 feet.The overall height regulations for fences are still in the Zoning
Ordinance raauir>ements. Fences located between the build to line and the front property line
(adiacent to a street)are limited to a maximum-of-3 feet in heiahf Fences located In the side or rear
Yard shall not exceed 6 feet. As it is a Zoning Ordinance requirement if any of the residents want to
change the 3foot requirement to 4 feet.they will need to formally reguest such chance from the C tv
